History

Smeaton's Tower, Plymouth

Created in August 1997 the company was an assimilation of community benefit and economic regeneration Projects that had previously been managed by Plymouth City Council.

This non-profit amalgamation was called PICTOP (Plymouth Inner City Team of Projects) and was the origin of the now vibrant and dynamic Routeways Centre Limited. PICTOP was developed to fill the void in social justice created by the government of the day and to address the issues dealing with high levels of unemployment, continuing economic deprivation, and the increase in pockets of extreme social deprivation. With all these issues rife in Plymouth the charity made routes into the heart of the areas where it could best give support to.

Due to the charity's success, in July 1999, it made its home in the newly refurbished building in the heart of Mount Wise. It was also at the same time changed its name from PICTOP to ROUTEWAYS CENTRE LTD.

In May 2000, Routeways Centre Limited achieved charitable status with newly agreed charitable objects. These have been updated again in November 2008.
