Moorland Qualifications

The South West Mountain & Moorland Leader Training Scheme was formed in 1982 by Local Authorities within the greater South West of the UK in order to provide appropriate and accessible training for leaders working with groups in countryside, coastal and moorland environments.

The Scheme is Approved by Mountain Training England (MTE)

Anyone can take part in the Scheme.

Due to its origins many who take part are teachers, youth or community workers, but the scheme is open to all to provide an accessible route to gaining a recognised leadership award in rural and moorland areas.

The scheme is delivered within the South West, by member Local Authorities but the awards could be used elsewhere within the country subject to the approval of your employer or host organisation. Routeways deliver the SWMML training on behalf of Plymouth City Council.
